The Riviera Nayarit was present at the seventh edition of the World Meetings Forum 2019 (WMF), the main event for the meetings industry held in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, from July 8-10, 2019. The event gathered together top meeting planners from Mexico, South America, and the United States.

Besides allowing for direct contact with 111 specialized buyers from the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segment, the WMF also explored tendencies, successful experiences, and the challenges faced by the destinations regarding the meetings tourism industry.

Lucero Guerrero from the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB), met with managers, sales directors, and decision-makers from the top agencies involved in the sector, as well as clients from different industries including pharmaceuticals and insurance agencies.

There were a total of more than 36 agencies and businesses present at the meetings, among them: Tradytec; HGS Travel; Experient; TenDot; Prestige Global Meeting; FEDELAT; Comitiva; Amasbconcepto; PIASC Insurance Services; Inc. American Express Viajes Corporate; Meetings & Events; GNP Seguros; BCD Travel Costa Rica; Business World Travel Inc.; Creatividad; Viaja Mas Travel; Summit Events Corp.; Espencon; Sector Salud S.C.; Smash Events and Marketing; Frosch, BCD Travel Chile, Travel on; Bristol Myers Squibb; and BCD Meetings & Incentives.

“The Riviera Nayarit continues to increase its hotel infrastructure, level of service, tourist attractions, ground and air connectivity, and human capital,” said Guerrero. “The destination currently offers over 17,000 m² (182,986 ft²) of meetings space, as well as convention centers capable of handling major events.”

According to Marc Murphy, managing director of the CVB and the AHMBB, Mexico’s growth and its potential to become a leader in conferences and events in Latin America encourage destinations such as the Riviera Nayarit to continue working within this segment, which is a significant revenue generator.

“On a global scale, the Meetings Industry is four times larger than the Leisure Industry, and annual growth is also greater within the Conferences and Conventions sector. This is why events like the World Meetings Forum help boost the industry by attracting the best planners and buyers,” he added.

In this respect, the Riviera Nayarit has proven not only to be a leader in the tourism industry but also an extraordinary host for top events including the 2012 Tianguis Turístico México and the 2018 World Meetings Forum, to mention a couple.
