Timeshare versus Travel Agencies

For Francisco Beltrán, President of the Mexican Travel Agency Association (AMAV in Spanish initials), the friction between travel agencies and timeshare developments (represented by Adeprotur) in the past have improved and the relationship between the two today is working smoothly.

“We are working really well and have realized that the objective should be Puerto Vallarta as a destination and not a personal endeavor. Based on that, we have begun working together, looking for the best alternatives, promotion and best service.”

“When a problem comes up, we speak immediately and search for answers. We get the parties involved together to facilitate solutions and avoid sterile discussions that don't go anywhere.”

Originally from Mexico City, Francisco Beltrán has lived in Puerto Vallarta for 45 years. He presides over the AMAV (Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit chapter) since 2013 and recognizes that there are certain persons who have a radical view of timeshare and are against travel agencies; however, we have slowly but surely been filing away at those rough edges and are enjoying an excellent relationship with who we work with. We understand that we need each other. We have open dialogue and this is what's important.”

It's necessary to get out of our comfort zone

“When you're in the comfort zone, nothing works. That is why it is necessary to talk about challenges and innovation in the tourism sector. Timeshare is a world re-known industry that generates jobs, offering the possibility to improve lifestyles and this is important for business.”

Timeshare in Vallarta and Nayarit generate occupancy and repetitive tourism (which requires novel attractions so that every time they return to the destination they have new options for activities). In this way, timeshare is continually improving their product, their rooms and installations. The fact that the business is improving is a good thing and is convenient for everyone.

“From my point of view, timeshare is an industry that is very respectable and has changed the face of Puerto Vallarta: they have done very positive things for our destination in promotion, in generating jobs for the community and in the quality of their services. We cannot say that this is a negative, but the contrary.”

“We should continue to work very hard, continue to search for alternatives and innovation. This should be the objective of Puerto Vallarta.”
