Timeshare Continues to Increase

The timeshare industry continues to expand in Mexico. With a growth rate of 8%, it is estimated that by next year the industry will meet or surpass its highest ever number of weeks sold, (196,000) which was achieved in 2008.

RCI (Resort Condominiums International) releases scheduled reports entitled "Analysis and Outlook for Latin American Vacation Ownership", which provides information on the tourism industry regarding timeshares.

These reports of great interest as the timeshare industry has a very important influence in the country's tourism industry, as about two thirds of accommodations in Mexico's various beach destinations are used for vacation ownership.

Gustavo de la Serna, Director of Business Development for Mexico and Central America for RCI, said that "we think that in 2015, the national industry will return to the levels they did in 2008, then we'll get back to 196,000 units sold " and he did not rule out reaching 200,000.

2013 sales in Mexico in the timeshare industry were strong, amounting to $3.2 billion with 181,655 weeks sold in 525 resorts. 166 of these developments are in Cancun and Riviera Maya and 105 were in Vallarta • Nayarit.

The average annual growth rate over the last five years for the number of weeks sold was 3.12% and it is estimated that this year's growth will be 8%. Therefore, the timeshare industry continues to rise in Mexico plays a major role in Puerto Vallarta’s market.
