Originally from Guadalajara, Álvaro Garciarce Monraz, aged 43, is the General Manager of the iconic Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center in Vallarta • Nayarit. And he is "very proud" of the over 34 years that the Sheraton Hotel has been an "important part of tourism development in Banderas Bay."

While Sheraton Buganvilias opened in 1979, it was not until the mid-80s when it began to offer a vacation club, also known as timeshare.

So why did Sheraton Buganvilias decide to enter the vacation club market?
To provide broader options for guests and respond to a need in the marketplace. We saw how the resort would be complemented by offering hotel services in the form of timeshare.

Do timeshare guests benefit other businesses in the Banderas Bay area?
Of course! We are a five minute walk from the historic center of Puerto Vallarta, one of the most important attractions we have. Every day we see our vacation club members enjoying shopping, the sea and mountain views and Puerto Vallarta cuisine. Although our rooms have kitchenettes, our members prefer to eat out at restaurants. Often we see that after a week, they still haven't used their kitchens at all.

Is timeshare an important source of job creation?
16% of the total national market is here in the region of Banderas Bay. We have 500 rooms that require daily maintenance and cleaning. It is an industry that since its inception has created jobs in all sectors. Our members use buses and taxies, shop local businesses and frequent local restaurants which results in an economic benefit for the city.
