A huge advantage of owning a timeshare in Puerto Vallarta - Nayarit, is the opportunity to participate in different holidays during your stay.  For example, Dia de Los Muertos is an extremely important holiday in Mexico. Contrary to popular belief, the holiday does not consist of mourning the dead, but in fact the whole idea is to celebrate and honour their lives here on Earth. The main method of doing this is by building incredible altars or ofrendas, meaning offerings, for the deceased.

There are a many different components to these altars that have a great deal of significance, such as pictures of the deceased, their favorite foods, liquors, and cigarettes. Other components that have important symbolism include candles, which are believed to illuminate the path from the land of the dead to the land of the living, and a special kind of flower called cempasuchil or flor de muertos.

Little dishes of salt are also placed on the ofrenda, as a purifying element and water is placed to quench the thirst of the souls who have made the long journey back to our world for the celebration. Many other things are added to the altars, making them differ greatly from region to region, but the idea is always the same.

It may seem a little eerie to think about souls of the deceased coming back to spend a night with the living, but in fact, it’s a very special night for families and friends in Mexico. It provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed on. Dia de los Muertos is a very unique tradition, it’s one of the many reasons why owning a timeshare in Mexico is definitely something to consider!
