Spending the holidays in Puerto Vallarta is the perfect way to close off your year with your friends, family, or partner. Not only does Vallarta offer the promise of days full of endless sunshine and tropical paradise weather, but the area also offers plenty of opportunities to spend your holidays surrounded by the beauty of Mexican culture, exquisite food, and the warmth of the people.

As a predominantly catholic country, Mexico’s celebration of Christmas is essentially a month-long affair. In Puerto Vallarta, the celebrations begin with the Peregrinaciones or Pilgrimages, in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Processions and parades to the Guadalupe Parish found in Vallarta’s city center are held from December 1st to the 12th. Festive Posadas begin as of the 16th, or sometimes earlier as friends, families, coworkers, and communities come together to celebrate the holiday season together with food, drink, music and piñatas.

It is typical for Mexican families to celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve with a celebratory dinner or potluck, and Christmas Day often being the day that communities go to mass at their local church.
