Hotel Occupancy was 60% in 70 Destinations in Mexico from January to June

In the first half of 2023, hotel occupancy was 60% in 70 centers monitored by DataTur, the Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco said on Monday.

The figure is 5.3 percentage points more than in the same period of 2022.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) reported that the arrival of tourists to hotels, from January to June 2023, was 42 million, of which 30.2 million were national tourists, equivalent to 72% of the total; while 11.8 million were foreigners, which represents 28%.

The official specified that the cities registered 22.8 million tourists to hotel rooms, while the beach centers received 19.2 million tourists to hotel rooms, during January-June 2023.

Torruco Marqués indicated that, in beach cities, the occupancy level in the first semester of 2023 was 69.4%, which means an increase of 3.4 percentage points, compared to the same period of 2022, when 66% occupancy was registered. .

He pointed out that, in the first six months of the year, in city destinations, the occupancy percentage registered 51.7%, which in relation to the 44.9% registered between January and June 2022, means an increase of 6.8 percentage points.

He pointed out that, from January to June 2023, in hotel occupancy by tourist centers, the following stand out with the highest occupancy levels: Akumal, with 85.3%; Playacar, with 83.5%; Cabo San Lucas, with 81%; New Nayarit, with 78.8%; Puerto Vallarta, 77.3% and Cancun, 76.6%.

The Secretary of Tourism reported that, in the first half of 2023, the number of average occupied rooms reached a level of 259 thousand 75 units, this is 12.3% more than in the same period of 2022.

For beach centers, in January-June 2023, an average of 141,483 occupied rooms were registered, while in the first half of 2022 there were 129,224, which means an increase of 9.5%.

In city destinations, the number of occupied rooms from January to June 2023 was 117,592, which represents an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The head of Sectur affirmed that, in the accumulated January-June 2023, the average number of available rooms reached a level of 431,460 units, this is 2.3% more than in the first half of last year.

For beach centers, an average of 203,965 available rooms were registered, while in 2022 there were 195,821, which means 4.2% more.

In city destinations, the average number of rooms available between January and June 2023 was 227,495, which represents an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

Torruco Marqués emphasized that the hotel industry is the backbone of tourist activity, a sector that provides confidence for national and foreign investors, which translates into jobs and economic benefits in destinations in Mexico.
