“What our city needs is a well-organized and driven timeshare. This industry works like a well-oiled motor both to promote the destination as well as promote investment, incentivize the economy and generate jobs,” admits Carlos Gerard, Director of Tourism for the city of Puerto Vallarta.

“Timeshare should be a win-win for the buyer as well as the developer and the destination. Fortunately, that is how it is here: The tourist makes an investment that is convenient for him and his family, he trusts the developer and chooses Puerto Vallarta as the destination they will visit on several occasions (the tourist acquires a timeshare property ensuring their vacation for 10 or 20 years. This is a magnificent investment and therefore there exists such a large demand for it.)”

The timeshare in Puerto Vallarta ensures permanent flows of tourism and guarantees that there will be an economic flow to the taxi driver, the waiter, the housekeeper, the small business owner, the restaurant, the OPC, the administrative personnel and executives. This, in turn, guarantees an injection of resources to the city through taxes.

“Regarding what is said against timeshare, the complaints and comments; we should be aware that times are changing: It's not easy to outwit a tourist. Generally, the people who invest in timeshare are executives or people that are well informed prior to such a transaction. They are not going to spend $10, $15 or $20,000 dollars so readily. Of course, they compare us with other destinations and evaluate their numerous alternatives before making a decision. People are not afraid to use the social media networks to submit complaints and buyers look on-line for ratings.”

“Therefore, the numbers of breached contracts or outright fraud are being eradicated. The practice of misleading comments and aggressive come-ons by OPC's have been reduced to a minimum and in large part, we owe that to Adeprotur which has been instrumental in promoting professionalism, organization and cleaning out bad practices. I can see that they are working efficiently on this.”

“And so, for those of us who live in Puerto Vallarta, it is our responsibility to protect the flow of tourism. Taking care that the tourist returns and recommends us to their friends and family is imperative. If our tourists have a positive experience during their vacation, we will be certain to multiply their numbers. If we treat them poorly, are abusive, give bad service or not deliver what we promise, they will most certainly not return and they will tell everyone they know not to visit us... And with reason.”

“I think that businesses are great. For example, the hotel developers that are socially conscientious should be recognized for the added value they contribute to our community.”

“The efforts we have seen in terms of timeshare, developments, bringing better and more tourists, assuring a repetitive clientele, promoting our destination are not isolated incidents. We need the sum of all efforts from the productive sectors and all of those committed to Puerto Vallarta to participate and get involved in promoting our own destination.”
