The Malecon is the very heart of Puerto Vallarta, a gathering play for families, friends and visitors that is alive with food, music, art and culture. One of the many charms of the Malecon are the bronze sculptures line the iconic walkway, providing not only a look into Mexican culture and the history of Puerto Vallarta, but which also make for incredible vacation photographs.

The one mile long Malecon was first constructed in 1926 and was refurbished in 2013. Over its almost 90 year history, the Malecon has become home to over 20 statues created by national and international artists including Sergio Bustamante, Ramiz Barquet, Alejandro Colunga and many more.

Over the years, some of the statues sustained some damage, particularly after Hurricane Kenna in 2002, but they have all been lovingly restored to their original glory and the Puerto Vallarta Malecon maintains its status as one of the most impressive public art spaces in Mexico.

No visit to Vallarta ● Nayarit is complete without experiencing the Malecon sculptures and a free 2 hour walking tour is offered by Gary Thompson of Galeria Pacifico, every Tuesday at 9:30 am from November to April, starting at the Millennia Sculpture at the north end of the Malecon, just seaside of the Rosita Hotel.
