Did you know that Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit are surrounded by mangrove eco-systems? A great addition to add to your timeshare vacation itinerary is a visit to El Salado Estuary, a protected reserve of 417 acres mostly made up of marshes and mangrove vegetation.
El Salado Estuary is the perfect way to explore the rich biodiversity of the mangroves. The estuary, which is located in the Puerto Vallarta Marina district, offers tours through this special environment at no charge for visitors.
Take a boat ride through the mangrove where hundreds of species of animals live, including more than 100 of species birds with both aquatic and terrestrial habits and over 29 different amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Iguanas, racoons, opossums, crabs and crocodiles all call the flora and fauna of the estuary their home.
The El Salado Estuary offers tours on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and also on Saturday at 9.00 am, 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Reservations are required and the tour is 2 hours in duration. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes, shoes and a hat, and bring biodegradable insect repellent, a water bottle, and a camera or video camera.
