The destination’s hotels remained 70% occupancy from July 1 to August 8, 2021, as per official regulations.

As the summer vacation season ended, the Riviera Nayarit (in the Banderas Bay area) closed with an average hotel occupancy of 65% and 242,156 visitors, -1% compared to the number of visitors recorded in 2019, when the destination welcomed 244,212 visitors.

In terms of economic revenue, a report by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) Studies and Research area indicates that, during the holiday period from July 1 to August 8, the economic revenue was 183 million 164 thousand 161 dollars. This is 15.5% more than in 2019 when tourism revenues reached 158 million 617 thousand 185 dollars.

The numbers confirm expectations and indicate that the economic recovery continues to advance, already reaching pre-pandemic levels, according to Jesús Carmona Jiménez, president of the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

He added that the destination has remained top of mind among travelers and was one of the favorite vacation destinations during the previously mentioned dates, even though hotels are still operating at 70% of their capacity, as per official regulations. The Riviera Nayarit has also been top of mind with investors: there was an increase of 12% in hotel rooms in Banderas Bay alone from 2019 to 2021.

Synergy when facing challenges

The head of the hoteliers emphasized the permanent synergy between the CVB and the destination’s hotel industry, as well as the close relationship between the CVB and the Banderas Bay, Compostela, and San Blas hotel associations and its focus on tourism recovery. To further this goal, the groups have established guidelines for facing the challenges and overcoming the current situation, reiterating their positioning as safe destinations ready to welcome tourists.

“The CVB’s efforts have been maximized thanks to its strong partnerships with the destination’s hotels. This is proof positive that by working together you can benefit the destination so much more,” he pointed out.

Finally, he highlighted that, as of September 2021, the room inventory in Riviera Nayarit stands at 19,902 rooms, with Banderas Bay as the municipality with the most hotel accommodations at 14,398. However, the hotel industry is still operating at 70% of its capacity in compliance with official regulations established due to the pandemic.

The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Our hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments follow all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operate at the allowed capacities. Access to the beaches is limited. Be a responsible tourist: wear your mask and keep your distance.
