Puerto Vallarta Achieves Record Tourism Numbers During the First Half of 2022

Puerto Vallarta has established itself as one of the favorite tourist destinations in Mexico; achieving excellent results in visitor arrivals during the first half of the year, a reflection of the constant promotional actions carried out in this important city.

The national market has chosen the green pearl of the Mexican Pacific as its favorite tourist city for vacationing thanks to all that it has to offer. From January to June 2022 the Puerto Vallarta International Airport received a total of 1,190,700 passengers, compared to the 831,300 users in 2019 prior to the pandemic and achieved an increase of 43.2%. Similarly, there is a record for 2021 of 753 thousand 500 passengers, which represents an increase of 58.8%.

International visitors have maintained a good dynamism in their arrival at this destination, with more than 1 million 900 thousand passengers during the first half of the year compared to 2019, however, there is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when 928,200 users arrived, achieving an increase of 108.4%.

Also, in the same range of dates, this year the International Airport of Puerto Vallarta has achieved an increase in the number of total passengers, with a record of 3 million 125 thousand 300 passengers as opposed to 2 million 801 thousand 900 in 2019, and 1 million 681 thousand 800 passengers in 2021, which represents an increase of 11.5% and 85.8%, respectively. The expectation is to exceed 6 million at the end of the year, which does not represent a figure of recovery but instead, growth.

Currently, Puerto Vallarta has 12 international air routes, 23 from the United States, 14 in Canada, and 2 from Europe.

Similarly, Puerto Vallarta received a total of 106,289 passengers by sea through the 95 cruise ships during the first half of the year. The expectation for 2022 is to exceed the number of arrivals of 2019 when 181 vessels were received with 482 thousand 335 passengers.

Without a doubt, Puerto Vallarta has achieved record numbers this year in the arrival of visitors, thanks to the natural charms it has to offer, the vast range of hotels, restaurants, and tourist services, among many other attractions.

Even in the last quarter, important record figures have been achieved in the hotel occupancy of the destination: 80.03% in the month of April, 75.39% in May, and 74.39% in June, as opposed to 73.19%, 67.9%, and 67.31% in 2019 In the first six months of 2022, 90% of the lodging tax collected three years ago prior to the pandemic, has been achieved.

Within the promotional actions, during the first half of the year, around 56 activities have been carried out: 13 Webinars, 19 seminars, 13 FAM Trips, and 11 Trade Shows and exhibitions, in which the organization of the Gala event Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit and obtained more than 1,500 business appointments for the regional supplier and its successful participation in the Tianguis Turístico 2022 with more than 110 appointments with wholesale partners, tour operators, airlines and specialized media.

Likewise, within the area of ​​Public Relations, the Public Trust for the Promotion and Tourist Advertising of Puerto Vallarta has carried out more than 80 press bulletins that were shared with the media from different specialized sources, 10 FAM Trips with specialized journalists and they generated around 730 positive notes, which represents a value of 81 million 750 thousand 384 pesos.

Currently, different national cooperative advertising campaigns are maintained with partners such as PriceTravel, BestDay, Expedia Mexico, Aeroméxico, Aeromar, Volaris, Viva Aerobús, TAR, and MagniCharters.

In the US market, cooperative campaigns are currently running with Apple Vacations, Cheap Caribbean, Funjet Vacations, Southwest Vacations, United Vacations, Classic Vacations, Pleasant Holidays, Delta Airlines, Delta Airlines, Expedia, American Airlines, Sun Country, and Sojern.

In Canada, the campaigns continue with Air Canada, Transat, Westjet, and Sunwing, while in Europe with TUI UK, TUI NL, and W2fly.

Within the digital strategy, Puerto Vallarta has positioned itself ahead of any other destinations and has built the largest community, which totals more than one million followers on its three main platforms and has achieved a reach in social networks of more than 9 million impacts, this during the first half of the year. Likewise, the website has had a large number of visitors and has achieved, in this same period, more than 400,000 visits, mainly from Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Puerto Vallarta continues to consolidate itself as one of the tourist destinations with the greatest dynamism in visitor arrivals and has obtained historical figures during this first half of the year, which means growth results and has left behind the recovery model. The expectations for the coming months remain positive to achieve a historic close of 2022, both in terms of passenger arrivals, operations at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, hotel occupancy, lodging tax income, average rate, and economic benefit.
