The Tianguis Turístico 2024 took place last week in Acapulco despite the damage caused by Hurricane Otis at the end of 2023.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico for the LGBTI community, thanks to the variety of activities, hospitality of the locals, certifications in the tourism industry and above all, the unforgettable experiences.

“LGBTI tourism is very important for the city – located on the Pacific Ocean – considering we have a gayborhood (gay neighborhood) that welcomes the entire community,” said public relations director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, Sujey Cárdenas during the recently completed Tianguis Turístico de Acapulco, which took place from April 10 to 12.

“In Vallarta you can find hotels for every budget, restaurants, barbershops, beach clubs and more, precisely for this specific demographic, plus it was recently confirmed that a new hotel is about to open in the romantic zone, which has capacity for 65 suites. All of this confirms the inclusivity of our city, we welcome you with open arms,” he commented.

Cárdenas considered that LGBTI tourism has been growing and with it, the city. He recognizes that it has been easy for all the locals due to the hospitality and service that they have by nature, which has helped hotels, restaurants and other businesses report better numbers.

“We are on one of the most important digital platforms of the LGBTI community, which is Misterb&b, and they voted for Puerto Vallarta among the 'top 10' favorites in the world preferred by the community and the second favorite beach, on par with San Diego. I think part of the success is that Puerto Vallarta is very hospitable,” he stated.

In 2023, Puerto Vallarta won four awards at the LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico 2023, including Beach Destination of the Year, which established it as the favorite beach location for LGBTI people in Mexico and the rest of the world.

It is here to stay.

He pointed out that the resort, about 300 kilometers from the city of Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco, “is a destination that with the passage of time has become more open and more inclusive, and this has been going on for many years.

Cárdenas said that in Puerto Vallarta the issue of security is very important, which is why they have police officers trained in dealing with members of the LGBTI community, as well as pink patrols, information kiosks, among other services.

He said that for Puerto Vallarta, certification is important, that is why the entire tourism sector has everything from hotels, restaurants, and an abundance of dedicated workers within the industry.

According to Cárdenas, the LGBTI community not only seeks the best restaurants, hotels and beach clubs, but also a fun, fulfilling cultural experience where you can explore galleries, famous properties or discover new experiences on a guided tour. You can find all of these things in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
