With the start of nesting season for the Olive Ridley turtle and an estimated 2,500 nests along the shores of the Bay of Banderas, the birth of around 150,000 turtles is expected.
From July to December, turtle camps and various hotels host the release of hundreds of sea turtle hatchlings.
As with every year, the nesting season of sea turtles has begun on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Due to being an endangered species such as Olive Ridley, hawksbill, and leatherback turtles, Puerto Vallarta has put conservation programs in place for these legendary animals.
In fact, some hotels in the bay have their own turtle camps where nests are protected until the eggs hatch. Once this happens, they offer their guests the experience of accompanying the newly hatched turtles to the water to begin their adventure in the vast ocean.
Turtle releases are free, open to the general public, and take place just before sunset during the summer and autumn months.
